Owen Miyoshi, a Berkeley Ca native, graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied with David Burkhart. He has been performing and teaching trumpet in the Bay Area for over 25 years. A member with the Monterey Symphony since 2000, and San Francisco Chamber Orchestra as well as a regular sub with Symphony San Jose for the last 22 years. He also freelances with many orchestras throughout the bay area. In addition to performing, Owen teaches private lessons in Berkeley and at James Logan High School. He is the trumpet coach at Berkeley High School (5 jazz bands and 3 regular bands) and most recently has become a Teaching Artist at the ELM Program (Enriching Lives through Music) in San Rafael. Outside of music, Owen is an avid competitive cyclist, (some say cycling junkie), where he does masters racing and endurance ride events (Gran Fondo).

Renowned as “The Rockstar of the Flute” by the Informador de Guadalajara in Mexico, and regarded as “The Prodigy of the Great Flutist, Carol Wincenc” (San Jose Mercury News) Mexican-Japanese American flutist Ráyo Furuta stands as a captivating artist and performer of global acclaim. At the remarkably young age of 25, Furuta was officiated as a cultural ambassador to the United States of America. Since then, his prestigious performances include those for Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, The United Nations, and the celebrated Mainly Mozart, Okayama, Saarburg, Sarasota, and Yellowbarn Music Festivals. Furuta’s dynamic presence extends to solo performances, frequently appearing as a concerto soloist specializing in the contemporary concerti by composers Gabriela Lena Frank, Yuko Uebayashi, and the late Paul Schoenfield. Furuta currently serves as a Professor of Flute and Chamber Music at San Jose State University. Formerly, he was the Lecturer of Performance Practice and Community Engagement at Santa Clara University, where he was honored with a distinguished faculty award for his commitment to serving marginalized communities under his initiative “Mas Amor Arts,” which has collaborative projects with incarcerated youth, unhoused women of color, and California’s farmworker communities. He has also shared his expertise through residencies and master classes at esteemed institutions including The Juilliard School, as well as the Oberlin Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Lebanese American University of Beirut, University of Guadalajara, and many more. Additionally, he has served as a Visiting Professor of Flute at the Cleveland Institute of Music and served as the hand selected teaching assistant to the Emerson String Quartet – the only wind player in history to be invited to hold this title. As a recipient of the prestigious Staller Scholar and distinguished alumni “40 under 40” awards, Ráyo Furuta holds his doctor of musical arts degree from Stony Brook University where he was a pupil of Carol Wincenc and the Emerson String Quartet. Ráyo Furuta is a Burkart Artist and exclusively performs on a handmade Lilian Burkart 9k gold flute.
